In the earlier years of our Christian race, there always seems to be a sense of mission, of reachable goals or significant accomplishment, even if there is not the achievement of something concrete that endures beyond our lifespan.

But gradually it dawns upon us that we are going to leave this world and the Christian world pretty much as we found it. We have eliminated no lies, evils, stumbling blocks, corruption, or blasphemies that were there when we started. When all is said and done, all we have done is expose some of those things in our day, snatched a few brands from the burning, and exalted the gospel and the name of Jesus to the top of our voices, even to the uttermost of our strength until we have no more voice or strength left to expend.
