In Psalm 77: 7-9, David asks 5 questions in a row—
Will the Lord spurn forever and never again be favorable?
Has his steadfast love forever ceased?
Are his promises at an end for all time?
Has God forgotten to be gracious?
Has He in anger shut up his compassion?
The Psalmist was often tempted to feel this way expressed in these 3 verses. What is the answer to all these?
In light of the gospel and the New Covenant, the answer to the 5 questions he asks in these verses is always a resounding “no”.
For the Christian, the answer to all David’s questions in Ps 77:7-9 is always “No”.
Will the Lord spurn forever and never again be favorable? NO, says the gospel–Never!
Has his steadfast love forever ceased? NO
Are his promises at an end for all time? NO
Has God forgotten to be gracious? NO
Has He in anger shut up his compassion? NO
In the gospel, the Lord will never spurn His people, His steadfast love will never cease, His promises are “yes and amen” and will never end, He will never forget to be gracious, and His compassion will never be shut up!
A happy and blessed Thanksgiving to you!
