The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry . . . . When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles . . . . Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all . . . . The Lord redeems the life of his servants. – Psalm 34:15, 17, 19, 22
Many are the kindnesses, mercies, and gracious acts of God toward His children. We often fail to see some of His daily mercies toward us. Yet they continue, more certain than the rising of the sun. The Psalmist mentions three major ones in Psalm 34.
Answered Prayer (vs15) —
What Christian can count the answers to prayer? Some answers come quickly and some years later. But when we sow prayers as investments, they will yield true returns in answers. Sown prayers become answered prayers with a true yield of investment. That is why we ought never to stop praying for God to move and to work in situations. One brother shared with a godly man about the conversion of 2 of his children within a short amount of time. The man knew that years of prayer had gone up, and his reply was, “This is a return on the investment of prayer.” The Psalmist here states pure fact–the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and His ears are open to their cries. The praying Christian is on no fool’s errand–when the weakest saint prays from a sincere heart, no matter what the struggle or how weak the faith, God is giving His attention to them and His ear is toward their cry.
Delivering Power (17 and 19) —
The Psalmist also says that, in addition to answered prayer, His delivering power is at work for our benefit. “When the righteous cry, the Lord hears and delivers them” (vs. 17); “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” (vs. 19)
How blessed is God’s continual and faithfulness deliverance of us out of situations that don’t need to continue. They are not for our good, so He stops them and delivers us from them. If a situation is not for His glory in our lives and not for our ultimate good, He will stop it and end it, faithfully delivering us through it. We are never left to the whims and ploys of the devil or his demons. Christ rules over every wave of the sea in our lives and, just at the right time, He delivers!! But the Psalmist goes on with more good news . . . .
Redeeming Life (22) —
He redeems the life of His servant–that is us, every Christian; He redeems, restores, keeps our very life, to preserve us on our way. Nothing will ultimately be able to eat away and decay our spiritual life in this journey, because He is always bringing to us new and redeeming life as we journey on. The Lord redeems the life, the very life, of His servants, and none who take refuge in Him will be condemned.
What grace, what help, what promises today — answered prayer, delivering power, and redeeming life, all from a loving Heavenly Father and all through a gracious Saviour, Christ Jesus. What more could you ask for?
